Many citizens are already feeding dogs and cats in their local area, using their own personal funds. The food hub will be a place for street carers to collect food and water, create systems to share the works load, and to share knowledge about economical ways to provide healthy and enjoyable meals.
The learning hub is where we would hold our information sessions, courses and all educational events about everything to do with companion animal welfare. Our programs would be flexible to the needs of animals and community at any given time, they would include any topics which help guardians and the general community to understand and care for companion animals.
A huge barrier to important actions such as disease control, safe sterilisation and recovery from injury/illness for community animals is the lack of an appropriate space and expertise. We will create 5-10 good quality spaces for the temporary recovery of animals, after which they would return to their regular place. The facility would be legal and provide excellent welfare conditions, well over and above requirements.
The centre will include an enclosed dog field – the first in our municipality, where guardians can bring their dogs for a small donation for free movement, socialisation and enrichment. Our ethical dog trainer would be able to provide extra services at the site, such as recommendations on dog behaviours and appropriate activities, strengthening the bond and understanding between humans and dogs and reducing risk of abandonment.
