Our animal programms in Argos.

Our most important program is about a very basic need – food.

We are constantly working to find donations of pet food so that we can feed hungry mouths in our municipality. The food is then given directly to volunteers who are feeding community dogs and cats daily.
This program has three simple but vital benefits:

• 1. We are able to consistently provide nutritious and satisfying meals to cats and dogs in need
• 2. It increases community involvement by giving more people a meaningful and secure way to contribute
• 3. Volunteers no longer carry the personal financial burden of providing food to community animals – they should not have to!

Help the puppies in our community grow healthy and safe.

Our puppy program provides food, parasite control and vaccinations to puppies and sterilisation and disease control for mothers in cases where a female dog gives birth on the street. It’s an alternative to despair and a better future for mother dogs and their pups. We also offer the puppies for adoption and provide free dog training support from our qualified dog trainer for the adopters, and a guide book on raising a puppy.

Despite efforts to neuter community dogs, some females will inevitably give birth on our streets. Some dogs are fearful and impossible to catch safely in their environment, some don’t have a consistent carer to identify them, and some we just cannot get to in time. Unfortunately in most cases, either the puppies are taken and the mother left to breed time and time again, or all are left and the puppies rarely survive.

Help stabilise the population of animals in our community.

We have been working carefully and ethically to sterilise community dogs since January 2026. Our strategy is to try to sterilise all the dogs in one site, then monitor this site for any new dogs who come along. Continuous breeding of community cats and dogs causes a lot of issues for animals and a lot of work for volunteers. This breeding is the main source of stray cats, and although it is not the main source of stray dogs, it is a big source of suffering.

Many of the dogs have had bad experiences with humans and are therefore very difficult or impossible to catch. We take our time and always prioritise the welfare of the dogs.

Are you looking to adopt a dog or cat? We can help you find a pet that suits you.
Adopting a dog or cat is a wonderful contribution, but it is a serious commitment and it is important to find the right animal for the right home.

We recommend, as a priority, dogs who are waiting in local shelters or foster homes – some of these dogs wait many years with very little quality of life and they deserve a happy ending.
Other groups of animals who we can recommend for adoption are:

• Dogs and cats who cannot live safely in the community due to disabilities, such as deafness or blindness
• Puppies and kittens who are orphaned or living in a dangerous location
• Dogs and cats who have illnesses like leishmania, who can live a normal life but need daily medication and some monitoring
